Christmas Message

By Federico A. Espiritu
Officer-in-Charge
December 2007

Good afternoon. One week from now is Christmas day. Yes! You heard me right. It’s Christmas. At first, I was having doubt if I could deliver a Christmas message in front of a multitude like this without a prepared speech and not losing the importance of the spirit.

I used to give short, simple and meaningful Christmas messages to a small group of people, couple of old and new friends, to co-workers and to my sports associates. -- The essence of the Yuletide Season is simply to give HOPE.

My Christmas message to you this afternoon was a prepared one.

This is my first time to celebrate the Christmas season with you as your Officer-in-Charge. I became the OIC or the Captain of the ship by sheer circumstances and you all know the reasons for the being. Six months ago, we took the helm and steered the vastness of uncertainties and whether QUEDANCOR could conquer the tidal waves of un-remitted accounts, of doubts, confusions, and even to address the sliding morale of our employees asking the big question -- are we going to survive or not? Six months ago we labored for long hours of meetings and dialogues.

We deliberately argued in order to achieve a common good. We exchanged opinions and took them to the war room for intense planning and execution. Why? Because we all believe that there is HOPE.

I am sure from this day onwards, we will rush ourselves preparing for our respective department Christmas parties. No matter how difficult life has been and no matter what our personal struggles might be, the essence of celebrating this joyous event is something we need to look forward to. Being resilient and steadfast amidst the difficulties of life and the intricacies that go with it must not hinder us from coming together and to rejoice the birth of Christ.

Our Corporation has recently been rocked by man-made catastrophes. And this could also be reversed by man-made solutions. We need dedicated and God-fearing people to overcome these trials of ours. And start today by believing.

2007 has been a challenging and memorable year. This year we fought many battles in terms of corporate and personal pleadings, and by the grace of God we won. We have surmounted the depth- ness of the abyss of difficulties and swam it with honor.

I would like to thank each and every one of you for coming, for sharing your time, cooperation and for making this possible. Salamat. To all executives, the organizers and members of the different committees who extended their help in whatever form, maraming salamat po!

More importantly, this is the best time for us to look back and make personal assessment of what have we done to our loved ones, to our countrymen, to the company and to our country. This is the appropriate time to individually measure our contribution in these areas and to judge from there where we missed and fell short.

May this gathering signal a fresh start for the year to come and years ahead. Hope and hoping are the legacy and the only trademark that I would want to impart to you as your Captain. And I hope everyone emulates and work towards this vision.

The challenges we face tomorrow shall be determined on how we unravel the crisis of today. And my OCW or my One Christmas Wish this year --- is HOPE.

Heaven has its own way of rewarding us. I wish everyone a fruitful year. From my family to yours, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year !!!
